Unveiled in Marvel Studios' "Look Ahead" trailer for its upcoming Disney+ slate, What If...?Season 3 will premiere on the streamer on Dec. 22, 2024, which is the same day Season 2 premiered in 2023. Like the previous season, episodes will drop daily. The teaser trailer previews some of the "what if" episodes that will be part of the final season, such as Cowboy Shang-Chi and the return of Phil Coulson. Fans can check out the trailer, which also previews hotly-anticipated series like Daredevil: Born Again and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, below.
While most of the episodes in What If...? Season 3 remain under wraps, several have been teased, including an Agatha Harkness-centric episode that includes a musical number. Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's Head of TV, Streaming and Animation, referred to this episode back in August as "one of my favorite episodes ever done, and it may involve the giant musical number, and she's just incredible, and we all want to see more of her [Agatha]."
In January 2024, Marvel Studios shared several first look images from two upcoming Season 3 episodes of What If...?, a Red Guardian-centered episode that also features Bucky Barnes and Bill Foster and an anime-inspired episode featuring the Avengers piloting mechs to fight a horde of Mega-Hulk monsters. The latter's title has since been revealed to be "Go-Avengers: Heroes of the Gamma War," with the episode slated to include Sam Wilson/Captain America, Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Monica Rambeau, and Moon Knight, among others. As witnessed in the above trailer, there will also be an episode featuring Shang-Chi in a Western-themed setting, as well as one featuring Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, and Skrulls.
What If...? Spinoff Series Gets Release Window
The "Look Ahead" trailer also revealed that the upcoming What If...? spinoff series, Marvel Zombies, will premiere on Disney+ in October 2025, ahead of Halloween. Marvel Zombieswill continue from the events of the What If...? Season 1 episode, "What If... Zombies?!", focusing on a group of human survivors as they must fight their former allies who are now zombies.
Among the characters confirmed to appear in Marvel Zombies are Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel (with Iman Vellani returning to voice the young superhero), Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Red Guardian, Jimmy Woo, and Death Dealer, with Hawkeye, Captain America, Abomination, Ghost, Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, Ikaris, and Okoye set to appear as zombies. A sneak peek at the hotly-anticipated animated series was shown at the recent D23 event, with the footage showing Shang-Chi and his father Wenwu, fending off a zombie horde, forcing the latter to sacrifice himself so Shang-Chi would survive.
What If...? returns for its third and final season on Disney+ on Dec. 22.
