The Toxic Avenger Full Plot Synopsis Teases a Gory Remake

This weeks Your Nerd Side Show:

The iconic character, the Toxic Avenger, is making a comeback in a fresh rendition from Legendary Pictures, and Troma Entertainment. While the anticipation is already high as the reboot film gears up to premiere at the Fantastic Fest in Austin, now the full official plot synopsis has finally been unveiled, teasing fans with a glimpse of what's to come, via Bloody Disgusting. A new poster has also been unveiled.

Starring Game of Thrones fame Peter Dinklage as Winston Gooze, the film is branded as the “brand new reimagining of Lloyd Kaufman’s 1984 cult classic." Departing from the original storyline of Melvin Ferd Junko III, who transformed into an unlikely hero due to a mishap, this contemporary interpretation introduces us to a creature of immense size and strength borne out of deformity.

The full synopsis reads: “While the original film (which premiered in 1984 – almost 40 years ago!) followed the fate of Melvin Ferd Junko III (Mitch Cohen), who goes from zero to toxic hero in a case of bullying gone awry, Macon Blair’s contemporary take follows a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength all his own. Peter Dinklage stars as downtrodden janitor Winston Gooze who, after falling into a vat of toxic waste, becomes none other than The Toxic Avenger. This timely reimagining is up to its eyeballs in environmental themes as Winston goes up against the evil forces of greed and corruption to save his son, his friends, and his community. Even as this story exists on its own terms, the spirit undoubtedly remains connected to the original. Troma fans old and new will be pleased to know that the film has been rated “R” for violence and gore – as per Troma tradition.”

The Toxic Avenger Gets Reimagined

Released almost four decades ago, the original film starred Mark Torgl as Melvin Ferd Junko III, who is accidentally thrown into a vat of hazardous toxic waste, turning into The Toxic Avenger (Mitch Cohen). The film spawned three sequels, as well as an animated spin-off series, Toxic Crusaders. While the reboot stands on its own, it is said to closely resemble the spirit of the original. As an homage to Troma's legacy, the film will step into the franchise's tradition of a mature R-rating, boasting elements of strong violence, gore, explicit language, sexual references, and brief graphic nudity. The director's commitment focuses on capturing the essence of the original while infusing it with contemporary elements, to treat both loyal Troma fans and newcomers alike.

The film is written and directed by Macon Blair, as his second feature film after I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore. The cast of The Toxic Avenger remake is a star-studded ensemble, featuring Dinklage in the titular role alongside actors Elijah Wood, Julia Davis, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, and Jacob Tremblay. Excitement is building as the film is poised to make its mark with an impending trailer release. Intriguingly, the film's content comes with a mix of thrilling action and thought-provoking themes, audiences can prepare for a riveting cinematic experience that's equal parts exciting and thought-provoking.

The Toxic Avenger will premiere at Fantastic Fest on Sept 21.
