Our latest Show Your Nerd Side:
According to the rumor mill, the main cast members of the Fantastic Four reboot are essentially locked, and official casting announcements are expected to be made in the near future. Among the rumored names is Moss-Bachrach, who's reportedly up for the role of Ben Grimm, aka The Thing. During a recent conversation with TheWrap, the actor was asked about the rumors that he may be playing the next live-action Ben Grimm. Preferring to keep the fans guessing, Moss-Bachrach said, "Oh, I can't confirm, and I can't deny, I think."
There are many ways to interpret Ebon Moss-Bachrach's response. While it's certainly no confirmation that he is in fact up for the Fantastic Four role, it's interesting that he didn't outright deny the rumors, as actors will often clearly state in interviews that they aren't involved if that's the case. Of course, Andrew Garfield famously did just that for several months before the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was done to keep his surprise appearance in the film a secret. That makes it much harder to know for sure what's really happening when actors comment on their own movie rumors.
If Moss-Bachrach does get cast, it would mean that he's been given two roles in the MCU. He previously portrayed Micro in The Punisher, the Daredevil spinoff that previously streamed at Netflix. Marvel Studios just recently confirmed officially that The Punisher is a part of the MCU.
Who Else Is Rumored for Fantastic Four's MCU Reboot?
Vanessa Kirby is another name who's rumored to be up for a major role, reportedly set to play Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman. Kirby has similarly refused to confirm nor deny the rumors when she was asked about them previously. In November 2023, she was asked about the reports by Variety, and all she could say was, "I don't know, you'll have to ask them. I would be very honored to join."
Meanwhile, it's heavily rumored that Pedro Pascal will be playing Reed Richards in the movie. The announcement has not been made officially, but several major outlets have reported on the casting. As for Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, the rumored cast member who's been reported to be set up for that role is Joseph Quinn, known to Stranger Things fans for his unforgettable role as Eddie Munson.
The Fantastic Four reboot is set to be released in theaters on Feb. 14, 2025, after multiple delays. The movie was first announced by Kevin Feige back in 2019 and has since undergone major changes behind the scenes, with multiple directors and writers coming and going. Now, it would seem that the film is finally getting on track with writer Josh Friedman and director Matt Shakman.
