Stranger Things Producer Offers Promising Season 5 Update

Latest episode of Your Nerd Side Show:

Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy says Season 5 is ready to resume production as soon as the SAG-AFTRA strike is over.

"I can say that we are hoping to start filming as soon as possible. We really need the actor's strike resolved first. The Duffers have been hard at work since the writer strike ended," Levy told The Wrap. He also touched on the upcoming live stage show, Stranger Things: The First Shadow. "We're busy on a bunch of fronts because we also have our Stranger Things play opening in London imminently. It's fabulous. It's f–king awesome."

The First Shadow will explore the younger days of Hopper, Joyce, the Wheelers, and other beloved characters when they were the same age as Mike, Dustin, Will, and Lucas. "It has exceeded all our expectations," Levy continued about the play. "We're very excited to share that with the world. We are raring to go - our cast, our crew. Everyone not only needs to get back to work because we have many hundreds of crew members who have not been able to make a living since the strikes began, but we will be shooting very shortly after the actor's strike ends.

Millie Bobby Brown Bids Farewell to Eleven in Stranger Things Season 5

The writing team for Stranger Things began scripting Season 5 in Aug. 2022, with the title for Episode 1 revealed as "The Crawl" two months later. Principal photography was to start in May 2023. However, the project was delayed due to the Writers Guild of America strike. The WGA and AMPTP reached a deal to end the strike on Sept. 25. "We have reached a tentative agreement on a new 2023 MBA (Minimum Basic Agreement), which is to say an agreement in principle on all deal points, subject to drafting the final contract language," a statement from the WGA negotiating team said.

Stranger Things Season 5 will be Millie Bobby Brown's last outing as Eleven, which the actor has dubbed as perfect timing since she has a growing list of other professional and personal priorities. "Stranger Things takes up a lot of time to film, and it's preventing me from creating stories that I'm passionate about," she explained. "So I'm ready to say, 'Thank you, and goodbye.'"

Brown, who has portrayed Eleven in the science fiction series since 2016, has experienced a meteoric rise to fame following her casting. Notable milestones in her career include Emmy nominations for her outstanding performances in the show in 2017 and 2018.

Stranger Things Season 5 is pending production and release date.
