Booksmart star Eduardo Franco, who played Jonathan’s stoner friend Argyle from California in Stranger Things Season 4, has confirmed that he won’t be reprising his role for the fifth and final season
On Jan. 8, Netflix dropped the first behind-the-scenes cast photo from the set of Stranger Things Season 5, revealing that filming has finally commenced on the highly-anticipated final season. Some fans were wondering why a few Season 4 characters were missing from the cast photo, including Franco’s Argyle. The said character was last seen during the Season 4 finale, where he arrived at Hawkins with Jonathan, Mike, Will, and Eleven following the aftermath of Vecna’s foiled plans to fully destroy the town. During a recent interview on the Steve Varley Show, Franco was asked about his absence from the Stranger Things Season 5 cast photo.
Franco admitted that the Stranger Things team didn’t actually reach out to him about Argyle’s return in the final season. "It’s nice to hear that there’s, there’s some sort of, you know, concern or something, you know what I mean?" he said. "But I’ve never, I never got a phone call. So I think, yeah, I think that’s it." As Argyle played a helpful part during Jonathan, Mike, and Will’s mission to rescue Eleven, the character was a fan favorite along with other Season 4 newcomers like Joseph Quinn’s Eddie Munson and Jamie Campbell Bower’s Vecna/ Henry/ One.
Stranger Things Season 5 Begins Filming
Following the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the Stranger Things cast and crew have finally returned to the set for the final season of Netflix’s hit sci-fi series. The latest cast photo confirmed the return of Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Maya Hawke, Joe Keery, Charlie Heaton, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Amybeth McNulty, and Bower. They were joined by series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, along with Terminator vet Linda Hamilton, who’s the first new character announced for Season 5.
At the moment, further details about Stranger Things Season 5’s plot are still being kept under wraps. However, the Duffer Brothers previously assured fans that the beloved show would have a satisfying ending, while debunking a popular Season 5 ending theory. "I assure you that is not how we’re going to end the show," Ross said. "We’ve known where we’ve been going for a while. And we feel comfortable with it; hopefully, it satisfies everyone. We’ll see."
According to the Duffer brothers, the final season will be their "biggest" season ever "in terms of scale," promising that all the characters will be staying in Hawkins for Season 5. Easter eggs for the final season will be found in Netflix’s stage play adaptation Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which chronicles Henry Creel’s arrival in Hawkins. However, The First Shadowwriter Kate Tefry clarified that references to the events of the prequel play in Season 5 will still make sense to fans who didn’t have the chance to watch it.
The release date for Stranger Things Season 5 has not yet been announced.
