Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has officially set the record for the biggest debut of any Star Trek series on Paramount+.
In an official release, Paramount announced that Strange New Worlds "had the strongest debut ever for a Star Trek series, setting a new record as the most-watched original series in the franchise over its first 90 days." In addition to being a big hit in the United States, the series is also "off to a strong start internationally, ranking as one the top two most-watched original series on Paramount+ in the U.K."
"Star Trek fans all over the world embraced this incredible new Star Trek journey," said Paramount Streaming chief programming officer Tanya Giles. "We are thrilled that the Star Trek universe continues to be one of the most-watched franchises on the service."
"Over the past six years, Alex Kurtzman and his amazing team have brilliantly created and carefully curated a new Star Trek universe for Paramount+ with five complementary series -- each different in tone, style, story and in some cases target audience," added CBS president and CEO George Cheeks. "Each series is a success in its own right, and now the franchise's newest edition, Strange New Worlds, is earning critical acclaim and delivering notable performance achievements on the service, both domestically and internationally. We look forward to the franchise's continuing journey on Paramount+ here in the U.S. and globally, where in the case of Strange New Worlds, we're just getting started."
A spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery and a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, Strange New Worlds premiered on Paramount+ earlier this year on May 5, with Season 1 running for 10 episodes through July 7. The series takes place during Capt. Christopher Pike's time commanding the U.S.S. Enterprise, before James T. Kirk came aboard.
Strange New Worlds received an early Season 2 renewal this past January. The show's second season is expected to premiere sometime in 2023. At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was announced that Strange New Worlds Season 2 would also feature a crossover with Paramount+'s adult animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks.
The first Star Trek series to premiere exclusively on Paramount+ (formerly known as CBS All Access) was Discovery, which debuted in 2017 and is currently gearing up for its fifth season. Star Trek: Picard premiered in 2020 and is nearing the release of its third and final season. The adult animated series Lower Decks joined the fray later in 2020, followed by the children's animated series Star Trek: Prodigy in 2021 and the live-action Strange New Worlds this year. Paramount+ is also the streaming home of classic Star Trek shows like The Original Series, Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1 is currently streaming on Paramount+.
