Spider-Man's life has had plenty of hardships, and the web-slinger is unsure that he can go on being a hero forever.
2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the Marvel superhero, and the publisher is releasing a milestone issue for Amazing Fantasy to celebrate. Spider-Man made his debut in 1962's Amazing Fantasy #15, but now Amazing Fantasy #1000 is hitting shelves and digital platforms, featuring stories by a number of legendary comic book creators. In a preview for one of these stories illustrated by Daredevil artist Marco Checchetto, Peter discusses what he has dealt with over the years and tells the reader, "I never win. And I'm just not sure how much longer I can take it."

Peter has given up being Spider-Man before, notably in the well-known "Spider-Man No More!" storyline from The Amazing Spider-Man by writer Stan Lee and artist John Romita Sr. This story served as a main inspiration for Spider-Man 2 (2004) starring actor Tobey Maguire, where the wall crawler quits being Spider-Man after losing his powers, a result of all the difficulties that come with being a superhero. In comics, Peter has also been forced to give up the Spider-Man mantle, like in the more recent "Beyond" saga that left Peter severely injured and unable to fight crime for some time.
How Marvel Is Celebrating Spider-Man's 60th Anniversary
Amazing Fantasy #1000 is just one way that Marvel is celebrating Spider-Man's 60th anniversary. Following "Beyond," Marvel relaunched The Amazing Spider-Man with writer Zeb Wells and the return of beloved Spider-Man artist John Romita Jr. So far, the series has created some status quo changes for Peter, like Mary Jane being in another relationship with two kids, many other superheroes upset with him and his main ally being Norman Osborn aka the villain Green Goblin. Also, a new Spider-Man series will launch in October with writer Dan Slott and artist Mark Bagley, which promises to bring "The End of the Spider-Verse."
Amazing Fantasy #1000 features the work of Checchetto, Slott, Neil Gaiman, Rachelle Rosenberg, Ryan Stegman, Terry and Rachel Dodson, Jordie Bellaire, Steve McNiven and many other all-star creators. The issue goes on sale Aug. 31 from Marvel Comics.
