Nintendo announced a surprising product -- an interactive alarm clock based on its most successful franchises.
Nintendo has announced that they will release the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, a Nintendo-themed interactive alarm clock. Nintendo has been known to push boundaries and take chances on some wild and wacky peripherals, but Alarmo looks to be its most mundane yet unique release to date. The Mario-red digital alarm clock is available now through the My Nintendo online storefront to US and Canadian residents who have a Nintendo Switch Online membership. The clock is priced at $99.99 and will see a full retail release in early 2025.
Alarmo Tracks Your Early Morning Motions
Alarmo’s unique selling point is its interactivity and customizability. Buyers can access 35 scenes themed after Nintendo’s most recognizable franchises at launch. Games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4, and Ring Fit Adventure will all be represented and will come with unique and loud noises with the sole aim of getting you out of bed. Buyers can wake up to sounds from the Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule, or a Splatoon arena.
As far as abrasive sounds go, Alarmo delivers. The Splatoon paintball sound effects are liable to make you believe your neighborhood is midway through a political revolution, while the Mario coin sound is at the perfect pitch to get you irritated enough to get out of bed. Alarmo’s interactive elements are in its motion tracker, responding to your groggy early morning movements.Once the alarm has gone off, visitors connected to one of the many themes, such as Princess Peach, will remind them to get up. The alarm will eventually enter a snooze mode, but if users aren’t fully awake, Nintendo might send another more persuasive guest, such as Bowser.
When you finally arise, the alarm will play a fanfare song, such as Super Mario Odyssey’s infectious “Jump Up, Superstar”, or if you haven’t gotten up, it will play a more menacing Bowser theme. Alarmo can be interacted with solely through hand gestures, but if you prefer a more traditional experience, Nintendo has included a large button and dial to complete tasks. It’s unclear whether buyers will need a Nintendo Switch Online membership when it receives a full retail release, but as of now, it is a prerequisite. Those who link Alarmo to their Nintendo Account will also receive OTA updates, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons themes.
