latest Your Nerd Side Show:
The cover is drawn by legendary comic artist Alex Ross and features some familiar elements to Captain America’s attire while bringing forth new touches to make the garb stand out. Readers will notice that the outfit is a bit more armored in places, including his helmet and his hands, and he even dons kneepads for the first time. But perhaps the most striking part of his costume is what's missing: his legendary shield.
The "New" and Old Captain America
As revealed at New York Comic Con, Avengers: Twilight will take place in the future where prosperity is abundant, and thus the Age of Heroes is over. But longtime Marvel fans know that there’s no such thing as a perfect world in this universe. As an older and bitter Steve Rogers wanders the world, he knows the freedom that the people enjoy is a lie and the future needs to be avenged. But with many of his allies gone and Captain America on his own, what can he do to bring the world back to where it needs to be?
Chip Zdarsky and Daniel Acuña will handle the comic, and while they dropped a teaser during NYCC, many plot details remain missing. While many of the Avengers are gone, it’s unclear who is around for Steve Rogers to recruit. The trailer implies that Tony Stark is dead, and his Iron Man suits are being used as a security force for this fake utopia. Furthermore, an adult Kamala Khan is featured, but her allegiances are unknown.
Regardless of what happens in the future, the present for Steve Rogers has been jam-packed with personal and team adventures. He was recently turned into a werewolf in his solo series, and he’s the head of the Unity Squad that is trying to prove that Orchis framed the X-Men and are not the terrorists that the world has labeled them as. Even with all these issues, Captain America remains firm in his beliefs and what he knows the world should be. That will no doubt transfer to the future, where he fights for a world that thinks it doesn’t need him.
Avengers: Twilight #1 will arrive in stores on Jan. 17, 2024.
