Netflix is looking for contestants for an upcoming Willy Wonka-inspired series called The Golden Ticket. Those interested are invited to apply online for the chance to "step inside" the fabled factory.
The Golden Ticket will see a group of lucky contestants given the chance to visit the wonderland of Roald Dahl's original 1964 novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, by getting their hands on a coveted golden ticket. A filming location and premiere date for The Golden Ticket has yet to be announced, but the competition series is currently accepting applicants. Wonka fans who are 18 years and older and United States residents are encouraged to apply on Netflix's website to compete in the "immersive factory" for a "huge" prize.
Netflix teased the obstacles contestants will face. "To achieve sweet success in this high-stakes social experiment, players will have to adapt and strategize, as a golden ticket only gets you so far," a statement from the streaming platform said. "Wonka's guests must withstand games, tests, and temptations designed to prove their instincts, resilience, and ability to thrive in the chaos of a retro-futuristic dream-scape."
The Golden Ticket will be the latest Roald Dahl project from Netflix, following Matilda the Musical and The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar. The streaming platform partnered up with the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021 to adapt the author's stories for fans around the world. Netflix's animated adaptation of The Twits is scheduled for release sometime in 2025.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is among Dahl's most well-known works, alongside James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, and Fantastic Mr. Fox. The story has been adapted into two films, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder in 1971, as well as Johnny Depp's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in 2005. In 2023, a prequel musical titled Wonka hit theaters, with Timothée Chalamet playing the titular character
The Golden Ticket Teases a 'Step Inside the Factory'

The story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sees the young Charlie Bucket winning a Golden Ticket that was hidden inside one of chocolatier Willy Wonka's signature candy bars, allowing him the chance to visit the factory where the candies are made. During the tour of the factory, Charlie and the other winners meet the Oompa-Loompas and find themselves dealing with comedically dark temptations inside.
According to Netflix, The Golden Ticket series will bring Wonka's factory to life like never before. "This one-of-a-kind reality competition blends adventure, strategy, and social dynamics, creating an experience that is as captivating as it is unpredictable," Jeff Gaspin, Vice President of Unscripted at Netflix, said. "For the first time, a lucky few won’t just have to imagine the experience - they’ll get to step inside the factory and live it."
The Golden Ticket is now accepting applications for contestants.
