The Transformers brand is no stranger to nostalgic offerings based on Generation 1, with numerous toys and collectibles based on the original iteration of the franchise still being made today. The Super 7 brand has continued this trend with multiple action figures, with the latest of these being based on the original version of the Decepticon leader.
Recreating his design from 1984's The Transformers, Super7's Megatron figure is an excellent representation of the robot known for ripping out his enemies' optics. Along with the figure itself, the old-school packaging even homages a specific episode of the cartoon. One of multiple releases from Super 7 based on the franchise, the toy is the way to cap off 40 years of Transformers.
Achieve Peace Through Tyranny With Super 7's Megatron Action Figure
Per the name, the Super 7 Transformers Deluxe Megatron figure depicts the ruthless Decepticon leader's robot mode as a 7" injected plastic toy. Although it doesn't transform into his classic Walter P-38 gun form, the articulated figure makes up for this by being a highly accurate rendition of the character's design in The Transformers. This contrast between the original toy and the cartoon can be seen on the VHS-style packaging, which showcases the design for Megatron's original toy on the spine. Furthering the old-school homage is the rest of the packaging, which is made to look like a VHS collection for the Transformers Season 2 episode "Megatron's Master Plan," which involved Megatron and the Decepticons having the Autobots exiled from Earth after framing their heroic counterparts.
Megatron comes with his iconic fusion cannon, which can be removed from his right arm to allow him to crush Optimus Prime with his bare hands. This is now easier than ever, with Super 7 having recently shown off its Transformers Deluxe Optimus Prime figure. There's also a figure based on Megatron's lackey Soundwave, although this toy is exclusive to Amazon, while the Super 7 Optimus Prime figure is available at Macy's. The Megatron toy can also be purchased through the Super 7 website or other online retailers for $40, with the expert craftsmanship on the detailing and paint making the affordable collectible more than worth that price. The figure is also one of only a few new Megatron toys released or revealed in 2024, which marks the 40th anniversary of the Transformers brand. Conversely, there have been markedly more new Optimus Prime figures to mark the occasion.
