Marvel Studios Confirms Sacha Baron Cohen's Involvement in Ironheart

Latest Your Nerd Side Show:

A new copyright filing for Ironheart confirmed that Sacha Baron Cohen is part of the cast for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series.

Cohen, who is best known for his creation and portrayal of the fictional satirical characters Ali G and Borat Sagdiyev, is credited as "Mystery Man" in a recent Ironheart copyright filing on the U.S. Copyright Office Public Records System. Baron Cohen has been rumored to appear in Ironheart since October 2022, although Marvel has yet to officially confirm his involvement in the Disney+ miniseries until now. The actor is expected to portray the villainous Mephisto in Ironheart, with Marvel seemingly using "Mystery Man" as a placeholder to hide the face Baron Cohen is playing a major villain from the comics.

Ironheart Gets New Projected Release Date

Ironheart, following Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams/Ironheart after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), was originally scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in Fall 2023. However, in September 2023, Marvel Studios removed the series from its upcoming release calendar. While no official reason was given by the studio, insiders noted that the series was delayed to bring its release closer to the upcoming movie Armor Wars, which has not begun production at the time of writing. Ironheart is now projected to release in late 2025, according to the copyright filing, although this date remains unconfirmed by Marvel at this time.

While plot details remain scarce, Ironheart will reportedly focus on the differences between technology and magic, with Riri Williams/Ironheart representing the former and Parker Robbins/The Hood (Anthony Ramos) the latter. Rumors have also been stated that Baron Cohen's Mephisto will be the one to supply Parker Robbins with his hood that allows him to tap into dark arts and magic. Filming on Ironheart wrapped back in November 2022, meaning that the cast and crew might have to wait almost three whole years before viewing their finished work on Disney+.

Who Else Stars in Ironheart?

In addition to Baron Cohen, Thorne and Ramos, Ironheart will feature an ensemble cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich as Joe McGillicuddy, Lyric Ross as Natalie Washington, Matthew Elam as Xavier Washington, Anji White as Ronnie Williams, Manny Montana as Cousin John and Shea Coulee as Slug. Additionally, Jim Rash will reprise his Captain America: Civil War role as the Dean of MIT in the series while Harper Anthony, Zoe Terakes, Regan Aliyah, Shakira Barrera, Rashida "Sheedz" Olayiwola, Sonia Denis, Paul Calderón and Cree Summer have been cast in undisclosed roles.

Ironheart remains officially undated by Marvel Studios at this time but is expected to premiere in 2025 on Disney+.
