Marvel Studios is believed to have begun revealing the main cast for Avengers: Doomsday. The studio recently launched a live broadcast on social media platform X, with the understanding that a new cast member for the highly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universemovie will be unveiled every 15 or so minutes.
For the broadcast's first 15 minutes, only a director's chair with Chris Hemsworth's (Thor, God of Thunder) name on it was visible. The camera then panned forward to reveal a second chair with Vanessa Kirby's name. The actor is set to make her MCU debut in this summer's The Fantastic Four: First Steps as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman. Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America) was the next actor unveiled, with his chair being preceded by "The Avengers" theme, another sign that this is indeed Marvel's way of announcing the cast of the fifth Avengers movie. Check out the broadcast below.
Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) and Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther) were the next actors after Mackie to be confirmed as part of the movie's cast. Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man) will also appear, with his reveal including a pint-sized chair fit for an ant. Avengers: Doomsday will also feature a small Thunderbolts* reunion, as Wyatt Russell (John Walker/U.S. Agent) will join Stan in the movie. Wright will also be joined by her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever co-star Tenoch Huerta Mejía, reprising his role from the 2022 movie as Namor.
Avengers: Doomsday Is Now in Production
Following the start of the live broadcast, the official X account for the Avengers franchise has confirmed that the casting reveals are for Avengers: Doomsday. In the account's own post, it was revealed that Doomsday is now in production, with Joe and Anthony Russo, collectively known as the Russo Brothers, returning to direct the crossover movie. The Russo Brothers previously directed the well-received MCU movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).
The Russos will also helm the direct sequel to Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, which is expected to feature much of the cast that is being announced in the live broadcast. Stephen McFeely has written the screenplays for both Avengerssequels. Like the Russos, McFeely has a long history with Marvel Studios, having co-wrote the first three Captain America movies, Thor: The Dark World (2013), Infinity War, and Endgame with his writing partner Christopher Markus. The duo also co-created the ABC superhero series Agent Carter.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
