Jungle Cruise Trailer Reveals the Film's True Story - and Threats

Disney has released a Jungle Cruise trailer that reveals the film's true story, along with the threats -- both human and supernatural -- faced by the movie's heroes.

Set to the tune of the classic rock song "Run Through the Jungle" (as was first recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1970), the trailer follows the riverboat skipper Frank Wolff (Dwayne Johnson), Dr. Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) and Lily's brother McGregor (Jack Whitehall) as they team up for an adventure. Together, the trio journey into the heart of the Amazon jungle in search of a legendary tree with healing powers that Lily believes will "change medicine forever."

Along the way, the three encounter dangers ranging from ancient curses to giant jungle cats and a rival expedition that's hoping to find this mystical tree before they do. The Jungle Cruisetrailer also offers the first look at Jesse Plemons as the villainous Prince Joachim, who faces off with Frank, Lily and McGregor during a high-octane battle of riverboat versus submarine.

Originally scheduled for Oct. 2019 and then July 2020, Jungle Cruise's release date was pushed back twelve months in response to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It was later announced the film would arrive in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access on the same day. "The most important thing with our movie was to ALWAYS take care of families around the world by giving you options to watch it," said Johnson, responding to the news.

The official synopsis for the film reads,

Inspired by the famous Disneyland theme park ride, Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” is an adventure-filled, rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton. Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.

Jungle Cruise, which is based on Disney Parks' classic attraction of the same name, is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Whitehall, Emily Blunt, Jesse Plemons, Paul Giamatti and Èdgar Ramírez. The film will arrive in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access July 30.
