Recently, film scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reported that Radcliffe was wanted to play the live-action version of Clayface. According to the report, he was one of two actors in consideration for the role. The rumor was plausible, as Radcliffe previously worked with director James Watkins on the 2012 film The Woman in Black, which could have been one aspect that possibly drew Radcliffe to the role. After the chatter reached DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, however, the rumor was completely squashed.
"As we confirmed the other day, we’re closing a deal with James to direct. Because we don’t have a director yet, we haven’t even started the casting process," Gunn wrote in a Threadspost. "Daniel is great but we certainly haven’t talked to or considered him. So this one is 100% false."
So this one is 100% false.
Many fans were excited about the idea of Radcliffe playing the unique supervillain, though it would seem that it will be a little while longer before any official casting announcements are made. So far, two names have been debunked as contenders to play Clayface in the film. Other than Radcliffe, Gunn has confirmed that Alan Tudyk will not play the live-action Clayface, even though he voiced the animated version of the character in the DCU-set series Creature Commandos. This is because Tudyk also voices Doctor Phosphorus, who is his primary character.
Clayface is written by Mike Flanagan, whose schedule was too busy for him to also serve as director, as the horror filmmaker has an Exorcist reboot that he's currently working on as well. While more details have yet to be announced about the movie, it's expected to be dark and R-rated. Whether the film will end up a major success like the first Joker movie and The Penguin remains to be seen. however.
Clayface Is a Hollywood Horror Story
A reported description for the film reads, "Clayface is a Hollywood horror story, using the most popular incarnation of the villain – a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay."

"Then we have Clayface: pure f--king horror. Like totally real," Gunn also teased about the film's tone in a CinemaBlend interview. "Their version of that movie, it is so real and true and psychological and body horror and gross... It's definitely R-rated."
Clayface will be released in movie theaters on Sept. 11, 2026.
