Invincible Creator Confirms the Identity of Season 2's Main Villain

Invincible creator Robert Kirkman just confirmed that Sterling K. Brown's Angstrom Levy will be the main villain of the Prime Video superhero series' second season.

Invinciblecreator Robert Kirkman just confirmed that Sterling K. Brown's Angstrom Levy will be the main villain of the Prime Video superhero series' second season.

n the Invincible comics, Angstrom Levy is a deranged scientific genius who uses his unrivaled knowledge of the multiverse to exact revenge on protagonist Mark Grayson. Kirkman indicated that this depiction of Levy will carry across to the Prime Video adaptation, while also insisting that Invincible Season 2's approach to the multiverse concept won't be the same as in the likes of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. "[W]e're using Angstrom Levy's multiverse capabilities in a much different way. It's not just about pulling different things that you may love into a story through the Multiverse. It's a very character-driven story," he explained.

Why Invincible Season 2 Took So Long

In the same interview, Kirkman also addressed the two-year delay between Invincible Season 1 and 2, primarily attributing the hiatus to three key factors. The first was the time-consuming nature of the show's animation, which often pushes the boundaries of the medium. The second was the length of Invincible's episodes, which typically clock in at the hour mark, something Kirkman labeled "unusual." The third was the scope of the show's story, which includes a sprawling roster of characters, all of whom have to be voiced by a large cast of actors.

Kirkman remains eager to continue expanding Invincible's line-up of performers, though. He said as much during a panel appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, revealing that he previously invited Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston to join the show, only to be told the actor was "very busy." "I believe [Cranston], but hopefully, at some point, he won't be too busy," Kirkman said.

Invincible Season 1 and the Invincible: Atom Eve special are both currently streaming on Prime Video. Season 2, Part 1 will arrive on the platform on Nov. 3, 2023, with Part 2 slated for release sometime in 2024.
