The Sandman star Boyd Holbrook has opened up about his starring role in Indiana Jones 5.
In a recent interview with Men's Health, the actor spilled the details about working opposite Harrison Ford's titular archeologist. "Harrison is the best type of crazy you can get," Holbrook revealed. "And I really grew up with Indiana Jones. I wasn’t so big on other franchises, and stuff like that, but to do that, it really just reignited why I want to do this. Because, you know, you live on the road. It’s been about 10 months on the road right now, being a traveling circus with your family. It was just refreshing to want to go through all that. To do something and to make something that’s burned into eternity. To be part of Indiana Jones—It’s pretty great."
Holbrook also assured fans that Indiana Jones 5 "is going to be badass" while praising the film's director James Mangold, who he previously worked with on Logan in 2017. "You know, just look at his work: Ford v Ferrari, it’s gonna be fast, it’s gonna be badass, and it’s gonna have heart. All of his films have this emotional beat in them, but we’ve got this grand scale of Indiana Jones," the actor said, hyping up the long-awaited fifth film in the action-adventure franchise. He had previously praised Ford in July 2022, saying how impressed he had been at what Ford could accomplish on the film's set at the age of 80. Holbrook had also lauded Mangold, stating that "the guy just can’t make a bad movie. He is so precise in what he does.
Indiana Jones 5 Will Conclude the Franchise
Holbrook's comments have led many fans to believe that Indiana Jones 5 will end the franchise on a high note. The film will mark not only Ford's last time playing the character but also possibly the last time fans see Indiana Jones in a live-action project. Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy has stated that no one else could play the role and that the company "would never make Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford." Ford first appeared as Dr. Henry Jones, Jr./Indiana Jones in 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark and reprised the role in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).
While Indiana Jones 5 plot details are scarce, the film is reportedly set in the 1960s and revolves around the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Ford, Holbrook, Antonio Banderas, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones, Thomas Kretschmann and Mads Mikkelsen.
Indiana Jones 5 opens in theaters on June 30, 2023.
