'He Looks the Same': Beetlejuice 2 Star Teases 'Crazy' Reunion With Michael Keaton

latest Your Nerd Side Show:

Beetlejuice 2 promises a "crazy and thrilling" reunion between two beloved characters from the original film as Catherine O'Hara teases an enticing on-screen reunion with lead star Michael Keaton.

Speaking with People, O'Hara, who will reprise her role as Delia Deetz in the Beetlejuicesequel, expressed her excitement about filming a particular scene with Keaton's eponymous demon. Though she wouldn't delve into details, she suggested the scene would be an enjoyable one for fans of the fantasy horror comedy film series. “I had a little two-person moment with Michael as Beetlejuice. I'd been in the first movie in group scenes with Michael, but in this, I had an actual moment where the two of us just....And it was just so crazy and thrilling, really to just be face-to-face with Beetlejuice," she said.

O'Hara's character in the original was an emotional artist who moved into the home of the deceased Maitland couple with her husband Charles (Jeffrey Jones) before Beetlejuice awakens her sculptures to imprison Delia and her significant other. Beetlejuice is later devoured before the Deetzs and Maitlands agree to live in harmony within the haunted home. Though Beetlejuice came out in 1988, O'Hara insisted Keaton has aged gracefully while sporting his character's iconic striped suit. “He looks the same,” she said jokingly. “Beetlejuice has aged very well.

O'Hara joined the Beetlejuice 2 cast in late 2022 and will star alongside Winona Ryder, who reprises her part in the original movie as Lydia Deetz. The upcoming pic also features Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as Lydia's daughter, Astrid, while Willem Dafoe plays a ghost detective who was a B-movie star in his past life.

Since Beetlejuice, O'Hara has carved a well-decorated career, having starred in notable films such as the Home Alone franchise, The Night Before Christmas, Elemental and, most recently, Pain Hustlers. The Canadian actor also won Best Actress awards at the Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy Awards for her lead role in the hit CBC series, Schitt's Creek. Along with the Beetlejuice follow-up, O'Hara will star in the upcoming spy thriller, Argylle, which also features Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ariana DeBose, John Cena and Bryan Cranston.

Beetlejuice 2 opens in theaters on Sept. 6.
