Happy Gilmore 2 is currently in production. While Netflix hasn't officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated sequel, former pro-golfer John Daly did say something.
Daly made the revelation during an interview with TheGunzShow on X. When asked if Adam Sandler had approached him about an appearance in the upcoming sports comedy, the former pro-gofer said, "I've already filmed it! [It's] coming out on Netflix maybe in March, April of next year." Daly previously confirmed that his role will be a cameo appearance.
Daly is a professional golfer known for his impressive driving distance off the tee and colorful personality, both on and off the course. He rose to fame in 1991 after winning the PGA Championship despite being a ninth alternate entry. Daly became known for his "grip it and rip it" approach to golf, hitting drives further than most players of his time. In 1995, he won his second major at The Open Championship. However, Daly's struggles with alcohol and gambling often overshadowed his golfing talent.
Happy Gilmore 2 Features Several Cameos
Happy Gilmore 2 is directed by Kyle Newacheck from a script by Sandler and Tim Herlihy. Netflix officially announced the film in May, with Sandler confirming that various golfers would be involved. "We worked hard on the script. We didn't want to let anybody down. People have been asking me for a long time. We're really excited about it. We wrote our a**es off. So many of the golfers are being nice and will be a part of it," he said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Production officially began in Sept., with photos from the New Jersey set giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the movie. The images show Sandler in a striped bathrobe worn over a gray sweater, yellow sweatpants and matching sneakers. The film also sees the return of original cast members Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, and Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin. Bad Bunny, Benny Safdie, and Nick Swardso will appear in the film, with NFL star Travis Kelce making a cameo appearance.
The latest additions to the Happy Gilmore 2 cast include AEW wrestler Maxwell Jacob Friedman, known as MJF. His casting was revealed shortly after The Substance star Margaret Qualley announced that she would also appear in the film. "It was the best thing that ever happened to me... I can die happy now," she said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. There are no further details about their roles at this time.
Happy Gilmore 2 will stream exclusively on Netflix in March or April 2025.
