This week's Your Nerd Side Show:
The official trailer has been released for an all-new Goosebumps series, heading to Disney+ and Hulu.
Inspired by R.L. Stine's popular book series, the new Goosebumps show is the second live-action series to be developed for the franchise. On Thursday, Disney+ announced that the new series has gotten a spooky premiere date, as it will start streaming on Friday the 13th in October. Also released was the first official trailer, which can be viewed below.
The reboot series, per the official synopsis, follows "a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle – while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past." Of course, we can expect various references from the Goosebumps books to be featured, given the notable appearance of Slappy that is shown near the end of the trailer. The series is known to include elements from the books Say Cheese and Die, The Haunted Mask, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Go Eat Worms, and Night of the Living Dummy.
The New Goosebumps Will Air on Freeform
The series will consist of ten episodes, and the first five will be dropping simultaneously when the series debuts on Oct. 13 on Disney+ and Hulu, considered to be a part of the former's "Hallowstream" and the latter's "Huluween" celebrations. New episodes will be released weekly thereafter. Meanwhile, the series will also be heading to broadcast television, as the first two episodes will air on Freeform on Oct. 13 as well for the network's "31 Nights of Halloween."
"R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps franchise is a pop culture phenomenon that holds a special place in the hearts of people of all ages,” Ayo Davis of Disney Branded Television said of the reboot. “We are delighted to bring this spooky new series to audiences everywhere in a big way on Disney+ and Hulu, which we hope will not only captivate new audiences with its elevated thrills and chills, but also lifelong fans nostalgic for the stories that are a staple of their generation.”
The reboot series is developed by Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman. Its cast includes Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price. Justin Long is also featured in a key role.
Goosebumps will premiere its first five episodes on Disney+ and Hulu on Oct. 13, 2023, with the first two episodes also airing on Freeform on that date.
