latest episode of Your Nerd Side Show with Fonseca:
Star Wars actor Hayden Christensen revealed in a new interview that he was responsible for Anakin Skywalker's Sith eyes when the character transitioned into the villainous Darth Vader.
While speaking with Empire Magazine as part of their 25th anniversary celebration of the Star Wars prequels, Christensen was asked about his character's turn to the dark side when Anakin helped Emperor Palpatine to defeat Mace Windu. On this topic, Christensen said that he pitched the idea of Anakin developing Sith eyes during this scene. "George and I [were] discussing giving Anakin Sith eyes," Christensen said. "Originally, there was no mention of it and George was initially against the idea when I brought it up...A few days later he came back to me and said he thought about it some more and now liked the idea of Sith eyes."
Christensen then went into why he thought Anakin should have Sith eyes in the final chapter of the prequel trilogy. "I loved the visual of Sith eyes and thought it could make sense," Christensen noted. "Darth Maul had them and Sidious has them. George responded saying that Count Dooku didn’t, and I thought that was the end of that." The Canadian actor then noted that George Lucas came around to the idea, but decided against the Sith eyes appearing in the scene Christensen pitched it for. Instead, Anakin's eyes changed as his transition to the dark side was complete, when he went to Mustafar to defeat the Separatists on behalf of the Emperor.
Christensen's journey in Star Wars appeared to have ended when Revenge of the Sith was released in 2005, but the actor made his return to the franchise in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, before coming back once again in last year's Ahsoka. Christensen said that he "would love to get to do more" Star Wars in the future, nothing that "if such an opportunity presents itself, I'll be there with a big smile on my face.”
