Although recent reports claim that Pedro Pascal was offered the role of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic for Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot, a piece of fan art from BossLogic instead casts the actor as the FF's archenemy, Doctor Doom.
The piece in question, which was shared onto social media by BossLogic, sees Pascal dressed as the Lord of Latveria while holding Doctor Doom's mask. The picture also shows Pascal's face covered in scars, with Pascal himself looking at the viewer with a glowing green eye, which adds to the eeriness of the image. "But [what if] [Pedro Pascal] is actually playing [Doctor Doom] ?" BossLogic jokingly stated in the description. "Maybe the rumours got it mixed up..."
On the topic of the project itself, director Matt Shakman recently touched upon what makes the Fantastic Four different from other teams, remarking, "I think I love the space race, Kennedy-era optimism of [the Fantastic Four's] world. The idea that we can solve all of our problems, that we can, through the right heart, the right mind, and the right technology, conquer any problem. It's different. It's different in so many ways because they are a true family. [The Fantastic Four are] not a family you find along the way like the X-Men or the Avengers, but true family with all the messiness of a family. With all the love, the hurt, and the complexity of that."
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Influenced the Fantastic Four Reboot
Shakman also revealed that the reboot was influenced by his work on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, saying he had "learned so much from working on It's Always Sunny over the years" and that its cast brings "a unique combination of playfulness and precision," which he thinks one has to have both of in everything they make. "You have to still be a kid in the sandbox playing and inventing, but you also have to be rigorous about what you're doing and comedy is even more rigorous than anything else," Shakman continued. "The precision of making something funny is often way harder than making something really complicated with special effects work. So playfulness and precision."
Additionally, while plot details are scarce, Marvel Studios President and CCO Kevin Feige teased in 2022 that the reboot won't retell the FF's origin story. Feige noted at the time that a lot of people know the origin and the basics, concluding, "We've set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen."
Fantastic Four arrives in theaters on May 2, 2023.
