Black Panther fans will be eating well in 2025. Eyes of Wakanda, an upcoming animated series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has just been confirmed to premiere on Disney+ next year.
The first title card for Eyes of Wakanda has also been shared, which places the show's title in bright white lettering, with a dusting coming off of the text, and in between two purple lines. Eyes of Wakanda will be the third Black Panther-centric installment in the MCU after the two live-action movies that were released in 2018 and 2022. Although Marvel Studios hasn't officially announced a release date, a Disney document has reported that Eyes of Wakanda will premiere on Disney+ on Aug. 6, 2025, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU. First announced by Marvel Studios in December 2023, Eyes of Wakanda will be a four-part animated anthology series that follows Wakandan warriors tasked with traveling the world to retrieve dangerous vibranium artifacts. Unlike What If...? or the upcoming Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which are set in alternate universes, Eyes of Wakanda is confirmed to take place within the MCU, with executive producer Brad Winderbaum stating in March 2024 that the series "fits right into our sacred MCU timeline continuity."
While not much else is known about Eyes of Wakanda besides the aforementioned story details, Winderbau, shared in the same March 2024 interview that fans watching the show will feel like they are "getting an animated look into the MCU."
How Did Eyes of Wakanda Come Together?
Winderbaum previously shared back in January 2024 how Eyes of Wakanda came together, explaining that longtime storyboard artist Todd Harris originally pitched the show to Black Panther writer-director Ryan Coogler before taking the idea to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, who remarked, "Let's do it." Eyes of Wakanda will be the first, and so far only, animated series to officially take place on the sacred timeline, which is what the official timeline of the MCU is known by in-universe.
Is Black Panther 3 Happening?
Prior to Chadwick Boseman's tragic passing in 2020 from colon cancer, T'Challa/Black Panther was being set up by Marvel Studios to be one of the major superheroes in the MCU following the events of Avengers: Endgame. However, after his death, Marvel opted not to recast T'Challa, with Black Panther's sequel, 2022's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, revealing that T'Challa has succumbed to an undisclosed illness. The Black Panther title was then passed on to his younger sister, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright.
Despite both Black Panther films having been critical and commercial successes, Marvel Studios has not yet announced a threequel, much to the disappointment of the fandom. Wright previously hinted in January 2023 that Marvel was "already in the works" on Black Panther 3, although she walked back those claims a month later, stating, "What I tried to say, maybe I didn't do it clearly enough, to clarify, there is always the hope that you would have another film, especially in a franchise."
Eyes of Wakanda is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ on Aug. 6, 2025.
