The following contains spoilers for Venom: The Last Dance, in theaters now.
Touted as the final entry in the series, Sony's Venom: The Last Dance reunites Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock with the alien symbiote for a conclusive foray onto the big screen. Easily the most successful of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the series has had the most connection to not only this universe, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like the MCU, many fans will also want to wait until the credits finish rolling.
Like its successor, Venom: The Last Dance features a post-credits scene after the movie finishes. Given that the film itself is an emotional farewell to the saga that started in 2018, most audiences will want to celebrate until the end of the credits, anyway. While this might be the last Venom movie, as moviegoers are familiar with the series, there is a hint that something else is on the horizon. This might even involve a later showdown with Spider-Man himself.
Venom 3 Does Have a Post-Credits and Mid-Credits Scene
Venom: The Last Dance has not only a post-credits scene, but also a mid-credits scene that plays after the first song. The latter involves none other than Knull, the god of the symbiotes, who was an ever present figure in the third movie. Throughout the film, he sought the codex that was formed by the fusion of Eddie Brock and the Venom symbiote, with his alien Xenophages sent to hunt them down. This item was necessary to release Knull from the prison that his symbiote children had contained him in for eons beforehand.
Due to Venom's seeming death, however, this plan is stopped, but the vengeful King in Blackmay have another. In the mid-credits scene for Venom: The Last Dance, Knull lashes out and promises to be freed now that he knows the location of Earth. The post-credits scene for the third Venom film comes long after the lengthy amount of credits, which honor the staff who worked hard on the movie and comic book creators such as Todd McFarlane, David Michelinie and Donny Cates, the first of whom created Venom and the latter of whom created Knull.
In the post-credits scene, the bartender from earlier in the movie (who was the Sony universe equivalent of a similar man who appeared in the MCU during Spider-Man: No Way Home) escapes the rubble that was once Area 51. As he walks through the wreckage, a cockroach is also shown walking by a vial that once contained a symbiote. Tying into an earlier conversation about the durability of the species, it's suggested that a portion of the Venom symbiote may live on in this insect as the screen fades to black.
Does Venom 3 Setup Any Future Sony Spider-Man or MCU Projects?
As noted, Venom: The Last Dance is set up to be the final entry in the series, with Tom Hardy moving on from the role of Eddie Brock. Eddie is last seen in New York, having wanted to go there to see the Statue of Liberty with his now departed symbiote friend. On the other hand, the Agony symbiote lives on in its host, having given its host Teddy Payne superhuman speed. Thus, it's possible that she could appear in a future Marvel or Sony project, potentially having her own spinoff movie.
Beyond that and what's seen in the post-credits scene, it's unknown if any other symbiotes still exist in this universe. However, the presence of the King in Black hints at the most obvious path for new films. More than likely, Knull will appear in some other Sony Marvel film, though which one is unknown. The next planned project from Sony is the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, but it has yet to be shown if it will set anything up for afterward.
So far, the Venom films are the only financially successful Sony Spider-Man Universe films. Both Morbius and Madame Web were box office and critical flops, with the jury still being out on Kraven the Hunter. If that movie is also a disappointment, it may derail any further plans that Sony has. The most likely path is that Knull reaches across the multiverse and possibly has something to do with Sony and Marvel Studios' Spider-Man 4. For the time being, however, it seems that Venom and Eddie Brock won't be involved in the story.
