Deadpool 3 Star Teases Wade & Vanessa’s Reinvented Relationship in MCU Threequel

This week's Your Nerd Side Show:

Deadpool vet Morena Baccarin opened up about Vanessa’s return in the highly-anticipated third installment of the Ryan Reynolds-led superhero franchise.

Fans have last seen Baccarin’s Vanessa in Deadpool 2, in which she accidentally gets killed after one of the titular hero’s enemies comes back for revenge. However, at the end of the 2018 movie, Wade was able to prevent her death thanks to Cable to time machine watch. Speaking with Screen Rant, Baccarin teased how Deadpool 3 would be "reinventing" Vanessa and Wade’s relationship. She also confirmed that she had already completed filming her parts for the upcoming Marvel Studios movie, hinting that her character might potentially not have a major part in the threequel’s overall story.

"I think it’s really cool that they are such well-met characters and that their lives... You can see them in and out of each other’s lives constantly," Baccarin said. "The comic, it’s the same way. So I think that the franchise and Ryan and the director, they’ve done a really great job of always reinventing that relationship and making it interesting, but maintaining the core thing that keeps them always coming back to each other. So I think there’s a little bit more of that in this film."

Besides Reynolds and Baccarin, Leslie Uggams’ Blind Al, Stefan Kapičić’s Colossus, Karan Soni’s Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna’s Yukio, and Rob Delaney’s Peter are also returning to Deadpool 3, as they make their respective Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts. They will be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen in unnamed roles, with The Crown actor expected to play a villain. In addition, Reynolds also recently confirmed that Dogpool will be one of the variants set to appear in the highly-anticipated third installment.

Wolverine & Elektra Join Deadpool’s MCU Debut

In addition to Reynolds, Deadpool 3 will also be led by Hugh Jackman as he makes his long-awaited return as Logan/ Wolverine. Before production was delayed by the SAG-AFTRA strike, the first batch of behind-the-scenes photos surfaced online, providing fans with a first look at Jackman finally wearing Wolverine’s signature yellow and blue suit from the comics. Besides Wolverine, it has also been reported that Jennifer Garner will be reprising Elektra. Garner previously collaborated with Reynolds on Netflix’s The Adam Project. However, even though multiple major outlets already confirmed her involvement, Garner recently played coy about MCU casting.

As Deadpool 3 officially resumes its production following the end of the Hollywood strikes, the high-profile project continues to garner rumors about its secret Marvel cameos. Without confirming nor denying the said casting rumors, director Shawn Levy previously teased that Marvel Studios’ first R-rated movie would indeed include multiple cameos. "What blew my mind is how easy some of those cameos have been," Levy said. "People love Deadpool. People love Ryan [Reynolds]. Thankfully, people also seem to like my work. They know that Ryan and I are in a groove of creative brotherhood that is unique and seems to be working."

As part of Phase Five, Deadpool 3 is currently slated to arrive in theaters on July 26, 2024.
