The DC Universe has officially found its John Stewart. Rebel Ridge star Aaron Pierre has been cast as the fan-favorite Green Lantern for the upcoming HBO series, Lanterns.
Pierre currently stars as the lead in Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge, which debuted on Netflix in September 2024 and was the #1 title worldwide on the streamer for three weeks in a row. His recent acting credits also include the NatGeo series, Genius: MLK/X, as civil rights leader Malcolm X, Garth Davis’ Foe alongside Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan, and Barry Jenkins’ award-winning limited series The Underground Railroad. Up next for the actor is Mufasa: The Lion King, which hits theaters in December, and The Morning Show Season 4, which he is currently filming.
Lanterns follows "new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland." Filming is expected to begin in January 2025.
