The following contains major spoilers for Absolute Superman #2, on sale now from DC Comics.
DC Comics' Absolute Superman has just shown off exactly how far his reach extends, and it comes with an infinitely useful new power.
Absolute Superman #2 picks up in the middle of the titular hero's battle with the forces of the ominous Lazarus Corporation, who have turned a small Brazilian mining town into a Hellish wasteland. Despite being under fire from every direction and chained to a similarly threatening Lois Lane, Superman can't help but save the day. In the midst of roaring flames and countless enemies, the Man of Steel swoops up nearly a dozen innocent bystanders using his flowing, seemingly sentient cape. Better yet, the red dust it exudes is capable of healing their wounds in an instant, giving this Superman yet another way to protect the lives of those around him.

DC Comics' Absolute Universe is the latest big addition to the DC Multiverse, having first come into form in the pages of 2021's Dark Nights: Death Metal #7 by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Yanick Paquette, and Bryan Hitch. Previously known as the Elseworld, this reality was home to a version of Earth still in its infancy which, for whatever reason, was entirely out of the reach of anyone from any other reality. It wasn't until after Darkseid merged with this universe in its entirety that it truly came into form as the Absolute Universe of today.
It was during the events of the DC All In Special #1 that Darkseid forcibly bonded to the Spectre and confronted the newly formed Justice League Unlimited when he was completely obliterated by Superman. As devastating as this seemed, it was all part of a larger plan by Darkseid to reach the reality of the Elseworld and remake it in his own image. By becoming a part of the very fabric of reality itself, Darkseid was able to manipulate the evolution and timeline of the Absolute Universe's various worlds, giving rise to grim, gritty, and overtly brutal versions of DC's most iconic heroes and villains.
The Absolute Superman still maintains many of the most iconic trappings of his character as an archetype, albeit with a wildly different outlook and impact on his adopted homeworld. Rather than standing as a beacon of truth and justice on Earth, Superman is a mysterious freedom fighter whose actions have landed him squarely in the sights of some of the most powerful organizations on the planet. Between the legions of Peacemaker soldiers employed by Lazarus Corporation, their more capable agents such as Lois Lane, and the menacing Brainiac artificial intelligence calling the shots for all of them, the Absolute Superman is facing more overwhelming odds at the outset of his career than ever before, and with no allies to help him out along the way.
