While Daredevil has been rumored to appear in Spider-Man 4, it doesn't seem like the blind vigilante (or his arch nemesis Kingpin) will actually appear in the Sony/Marvel sequel. Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio recently addressed whether they've been in touch with Marvel Studios about starring in Spider-Man 4, and they wasted no time getting right to the point.
While speaking with Meltdown Press to promote Daredevil: Born Again, D'Onofrio and Cox were asked if they would get in trouble for talking about a potential Marvel Cinematic Universe return in Spider-Man 4. "You can ask that because we're not in Spider-Man 4, or at least nobody has told me that we are," D'Onofrio bluntly stated. Cox opted to avoid addressing the question, choosing instead to tease how the first season's "big event" will impact Matt Murdock, revealing that he will "never be the same again. Ever. And it's a tragedy on so many levels. Personally, professionally...but it is a catalyst for some really cool stuff."

At the time of writing, no casting or story details for a fourth Spider-Man film set in the MCU have been officially announced by Marvel Studios or Sony Pictures. Tom Holland remains the only confirmed actor for Spider-Man 4, with the actor set to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the seventh time. While Daredevil and Kingpin have both been rumored to appear in Spider-Man 4 in the past, their involvement in the movie remains unlikely given D'Onofrio's comments.
Marvel Studios reportedly wanted Spider-Man 4 to be a grounded street-level movie, which would have opened the door for Daredevil and Kingpin to appear, while Sony was pushing for another multiverse adventure akin to 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home. At this time, it's unclear which version of Spider-Man 4 that Marvel and Sony have settled on bringing to the big screen, although Holland shared in October 2024 that the idea for the sequel was "crazy," explaining, "It's a little different to anything we've done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it."
Sony and Marvel Studios have tapped Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton to direct Spider-Man 4, who will be working from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, who have scripted all the MCU-set Spider-Manmovies. Production on the sequel is expected to begin as soon as Holland has finished filming his role in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. Although unconfirmed, the actor seemingly revealed that Spider-Man 4 would begin filming between the summer and fall of 2025 after announcing a giveaway that included a trip to the set of the MCU sequel.
Daredevil: Born Again Revives the Defenders Saga
Daredevil: Born Again serves as a direct sequel to Netflix's Daredevil series, which was part of the streamer's Defenders Saga. The first season will adapt the "Mayor Fisk" storyline from the comics. Besides Cox and D'Onofrio, returning MCU stars for Born Again include Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, on Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna-Fisk, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne, and Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan.
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, 2025, while Spider-Man 4 is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
