The first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, remains under wraps amid increased fan anticipation. However, one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe show's top stars offers an understandable reason for the delayed premiere.
Addressing a fan question about the trailer on X (formerly Twitter), Born Again's Vincent D'Onofrio revealed why Marvel won't release the trailer. According to the Wilson Fisk/Kingpin actor, the trailer has been postponed due to the devastating wildfires across Los Angeles. However, D'Onofrio promised the trailer is "coming," though there's no confirmation of a release window.
The L.A. wildfires, which have claimed the lives of 24 people and destroyed countless homes, have affected Hollywood, as several TV shows like Abbott Elementary and Grey's Anatomysuspended production. Meanwhile, the anticipated Academy Award nominations were also postponed. No cause has been established for the wildfires, which began spreading last week.
Fans Are Eager to See Daredevil: Born Again
Since Born Again production wrapped last April, fans have been eager to see what the MCU's version of Daredevil looked like. Born Again continues where Netflix's Daredevil left off, with Charlie Cox returning as the eponymous blind attorney-turned-renegade. D'Onofrio returns as Kingpin after making his MCU debut as the menacing crime boss in Echo. The show also features other notable faces from the Netflix series, including Elden Henson's Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll's Karen Page and Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/Punisher.
Born Again sees Murdock fight for justice through his bustling law firm, while Fisk pursues his ambitions to become New York's mayor, building on his Echo arc. However, when their past identities emerge, Daredevil and Kingpin end up on an inevitable collision course. Cox claims the upcoming action-adventure series is "even darker" than its Netflix predecessor, while D'Onofrio played up the show's violence. The series underwent a creative overhaul last September, including letting go of the show's original head writers, with Marvel wanting a darker tone for the show to mirror its Netflix counterpart. Don't expect to see many scenes featuring Cox and D'Onofrio together, though, with Cox suggesting things would get too "explosive" if their characters shared the screen too often.
Part of the MCU's Phase Five, Born Again also features Wilson Bethel (Benjamin 'Dex' Poindexter), Michael Gandolfini (Daniel Blade) and the late Kamar de los Reyes (Hector Ayala/White Tiger), who died from cancer in 2023. Season 1 will feature nine episodes, reduced from 18 episodes following the creative overhaul. Born Again will return for a second season, with Season 2 production expected to begin later this year.
Born Again premieres via Disney+ on Mar. 4.
