Daisy Ridley Teases Her 'Really Cool' Star Wars Sequel: 'I'm Very Excited'

This week's Your Nerd Side Show:

While speaking with Collider to promote her new film Sometimes I Think About Dying, Ridley was asked about her return to Star Wars, which was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year. On the new movie, Ridley stated that she is “very excited. The story is really cool. I'm waiting to read a script because, obviously, I don't have any other updates. It's not what I expected, but I'm very excited." As of now, story details are few and far between, but fans were told at the event in April that the movie would focus on Rey attempting to restart the Jedi Order.

Ridley went on to speak about the timeline of her joining the new film, which she will also be a producer on, saying, “[At the beginning of this year], I had not been approached…I was asked something when I was there and strangely, people were asking me stuff and I was like, 'No, I'm not doing another one.' Then it all happened after I came back.” Ridley also addressed her time on stage at Star Wars Celebration, and the fact that her appearance wasn’t announced beforehand, making it a total surprise for fans. She said, “It was such a nice reception. I was sh*tting myself before I went on stage, because no one knew I was going to that. No one knew I was going to Celebration, bar like Kathy [Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous, [but] it was such a wonderful reception. I'm very excited.”

Creative Changes at Lucasfilm

Earlier this week, creative changes at Lucasfilm were announced as part of Vanity Fair’s coverage of the latest Star Wars series, Ahsoka, following the conclusion of the first season. It’s said that the franchise is planning a triumphant return to the big screen with both Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars movie and Dave Filoni’s rumored Heir to the Empire adaptation. Filoni himself is set to take a bigger role going forward, earning the title of Chief Creative Officer.

As part of this new role, Filoni said that he will be more heavily involved in all future Star Wars stories from the start, rather than being consulted as they are in active development, as has been the case for the last few years. Filoni’s promotion comes as Ahsoka set up his future live action movie, as Thrawn returned to the known galaxy and is set to start another war with the New Republic.
