Per The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley will play the lead role and serve as executive producer when the project, titled Trailblazer, is turned into a movie and graphic novel series. "Bertha's determination and courage are incredibly inspiring," the actor said about landing the part. "It's been such a privilege to step into her world and help tell her story. I hope audiences are as moved by her journey as I was while working on this project."

The project, directed by Eloise Singer, will tell the story of Bertha Benz who went on a road trip in 1888 to showcase the automobile to a public that was skeptical about the invention. "The virtual reality experience will invite audiences to step into Bertha's shoes, explore her workshop and assemble the engine that reshaped transportation forever," the official description reads. The VR experience debuted at the Venice Film Festival and SXSW. Ridley was not attached to star at the time.

"Bertha's journey is a powerful example of courage and ingenuity, yet it's largely overlooked in history," Singer said about Benz. "I was drawn to her determination - not only to challenge societal norms but also to prove the potential of an extraordinary invention. Trailblazer reveals how one person's tenacity and willingness to defy expectations helped shape the future. I hope this story inspires others to trust their instincts and take risks, even in the face of doubt."

Ridley Is Also Working On A New Star Wars Movie

Lesley Paterson, who will serve as executive producer with Daisy Ridley on the Trailblazerfilm, also shared her thoughts about the project. "As a woman who has overcome so many obstacles in my life and been a trailblazer of my own in many ways, I couldn't help but be drawn to this incredible story," she explained. "Not only that but to be a part of such a powerhouse female led team doing it, I had no choice but to come aboard!"

Meanwhile, Ridley's upcoming Star Wars movie officially landed a new writer. The project, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, will be based on a script by George Nolfi, who is best known for his work on The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean's 12. The film, reportedly called Star Wars: New Jedi Order, is set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Ridley will reprise her role as Rey Skywalker, but no other cast members have yet been confirmed at this time.

Trailblazer: The Untold Story of Mrs. Benz will be released via Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3 on March 7, 2025.
