Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers Reboot Unveils a Bizarre Trailer Featuring the Chippendales

Disney released the first official trailer for the reboot of Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers.

The new video focuses on the titular brothers who have taken drastically different directions in life following the cancelation of the classic Rescue Rangers cartoon. Set in a world where humans and cartoons co-exist, the duo is called in to assist the police with an investigation regarding the disappearance of several animated characters. The estranged brothers must set aside their past differences and work together to uncover the villains behind the kidnappings, hopefully patching up their relationship in the process.

While Chip and Dale take center stage in the Rescue Rangers reboot, fans of the original cartoon were quick to notice some absent members of the gang in the movie's first teaser trailer. While Monterey Jack and Zipper are confirmed to appear in the film, it's widely believed that Gadget Hackwrench is one of the cartoons that has been kidnapped by the mysterious villain. Some fans suspect that her disappearance will be what brings Chip and Dale together again.

Based on the trailer released for Chip n' Dale, audiences are in for a highly metatextual adventure that exhibits Disney's vast catalog of animated franchises. The trailer features appearances by Flounder from The Little Mermaid, Pumbaa from The Lion King (2019) and Beauty and the Beasts' Lumiere. In addition to the live-action setting, the movie will seemingly feature a host of art styles, including stop-motion, traditional 2D animation and CGI.

Beyond the unexpected setting and narrative, Rescue Rangers also boasts an all-star cast. Fans can expect to hear Andy Samberg lend his voice to Dale while John Mulaney plays Chip. Will Arnett, Eric Bana, Flula Borg, Dennis Haysbert, Keegan-Michael Key, Tress MacNeille, Tim Robinson, Seth Rogen J.K. Simmons and Chris Parnell also feature in the movie.

Directed by Akiva Schaffer and written by Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, Chip n' Dale: Rescue Rangers premieres exclusively on Disney+ on May 20.
