The upcoming Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars, recently received a major update. The news comes by way of Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie, who offered some insight into the production process and hinted at who might appear alongside him.

Speaking with Deadline, Mackie shared that Doomsday, which stars the returning Robert Downey Jr. as the MCU's new big bad, Doctor Doom, is expected to begin principal photography in March or April 2025, confirming what directors Joe and Anthony Russo stated in 2024. He also revealed Secret Wars should start shooting next year. "We shoot in London through the summer and then the following summer we shoot the next one [Avengers: Secret Wars]. It’s going to be a full slate," Mackie said.

Mackie also addressed who could join Sam Wilson/Captain America in Doomsday, with his version of the beloved hero expected to lead the new-look Avengers in the next two sequels. Calling himself the "OG" of the Avengers, Mackie, like many fans, wonders how many of the original group members will feature in Doomsday and Secret Wars. "I don’t know how many are coming back. RDJ [Robert Downey Jr.] made the big announcement that he’s coming back."

"Other than him, I don’t know who of the original crew will be coming back, but I know he will be," Mackie continued. "I'm excited to be able to go to work with him, go toe to toe with him. That's a once-in-a-career experience that's as amazing as working with Harrison Ford, because he's a legend," he said. "I'm the OG now. I'm the only guy. I'm the Avenger from the old group that brings in the new group. So it'll be a changing of the guard."

Starring alongside Mackie's Captain America in Doomsday will be Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as Doctor Strange and The Fantastic Four, the only confirmed heroes for the superhero film. Additionally, Chris Evans, who played Wilson's Captain America predecessor, Steve Rogers, is set to return as a mystery character in Doomsday, though Evans has publicly denied his involvement.

Early Screenings of Brave New Wolrd Recieved Mixed Reactions

Brave New World, the penultimate Phase Five MCU film, teased the potential return of the Avengers in a recent preview, with U.S. President Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford) expressing his desire for Wilson to rebuild the super group. Director Julius Onah also insisted that the upcoming Captain America follow-up will "cement" Wilson as the right man to lead the Avengers.

Following up the billion-dollar success that was Deadpool & Wolverine, Brave New World is projected to make $80 million domestically and $190 million worldwide during its opening weekend. The film's early feedback has reportedly been mixed following extensive reshoots and lukewarm test screenings. Mackie stars in Brave New World alongside Ford, Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres/Falcon), Giancarlo Esposito (Seth Voelker/Sidewinder), Tim Blake Nelson (Samuel Sterns/Leader) and Liv Tyler (Betty Ross).

Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters worldwide on Feb. 14.
