The animated series adaptation of Beetlejuice has resurfaced. All four seasons of the cult classic cartoon show are available to watch on streaming at no cost.
As of now, every episode of the Beetlejuice cartoon is streaming for free on Tubi. The show's arrival on the free streamer comes days ahead of the new movie sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, premiering in theaters on Sept. 6. The animated series originally ran between 1989 and 1991, with the first three seasons on ABC before the show moved to Fox. It drew acclaim at the time and even tied with The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh for an Outstanding Animated Program win at the Daytime Emmy Award in 1990.
Tim Burton, the director of Beetlejuice and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, developed the animated series. Patsy Cameron and Tedd Anasti served as writers. The show followed Lydia Deetz and Beetlejuice on their adventures in both the mortal world and the Neitherworld, with episodes often spoofing various movies and TV shows. Stephen Ouimette, who voiced Archangel in X-Men: The Animated Series, provided the voice of Beetlejuice for the animated show. Alyson Court, who also had a role in the X-Men cartoon as Jubilee, played the animated Lydia Deetz.
Alyson Court Hopes the Cartoon Gets Revived
"One role that I wanted that I actually did get, but it was like, I have to get this role... I really wanted to play this part, was Lydia, for Beetlejuice. That was like, this has to happen," Court said in an interview with Convention Junkies about landing her Lydia voice role. "Obsessed with the movie. It was my first year of high school when it came out. I was her, dressed all in black. I had the full attitude going on. So, yeah, I had to absolutely play Lydia."
On her hopes that the animated series could be revived one day, Court also said in the interview, "I would love to revisit Beetlejuice. I don't see why we can't have a [revival]. Yeah, there's rumors, but... I think that would be a fun one to bring back."
Of course, the animated series was directly based on the Beetlejuice movie released in 1988. That film inspired a franchise that would also branch out with video games and a stage musical that was launched in 2018. There hadn't been any movie sequels released previously, but that changes very soon with the theatrical premiere of the new film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder reprise the roles of Betelgeuse and Lydia Deetz after playing the roles in the original feature film.
Beetlejuice, the animated series, is streaming on Tubi. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters on Sept. 6.
