Our Latest Your Nerd Side with Fonseca:
Expect one iconic scene from Beetlejuice to be referenced in the upcoming sequel.
In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Catherine O'Hara will reprise her role as Delia Deetz. Sharing some new details about the film on the Let's Talk Off Camera podcast with Kelly Ripa, O'Hara shared how the Harry Belafonte song "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)" will be making a comeback in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. In the original film, the song was played during one of the most memorable scenes. While O'Hara didn't state exactly how the song would be used in the new film, its inclusion should serve as a fun nod to the first movie for fans of the classic Beetlejuice.
"'Day-O' is in the movie," O'Hara said. "It was just very, just really loose and fun and lovely, and Michael Keaton was so happy to be there, and Jenna is so cool. Jenna Ortega is such a cool young woman... Winona [Ryder] looks exactly the same!"
Catherine O'Hara is joined by fellow Beetlejuice co-stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder from the original film for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The movie will also introduce new cast members, including Wednesday star Jenna Ortega as the daughter of Ryder's Lydia Deetz. Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux are also among the new cast members of the sequel.
Also Expect Surprises According to Michael Keaton
While there will be some familiar elements, there are also some surprises that have been teased to be in store for fans. Michael Keaton shared how director Tim Burton will divulge some new information about the titular character that may come as a shocker for fans of the original movie. He also spoke about what it was that made playing Beetlejuice so enjoyable.
“The great thing about playing Beetlejuice is, that clichéd thing, you never make the statement, ‘Well, my character wouldn’t do that.’ He’d do anything, which was so tremendous to play," Keaton said on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "However, in the second one, which I’m telling you is so good, Tim lays this idea on me. Admittedly, I kind of went, ‘Oh, okay. I don’t know, good luck with that.’ So there is a kind of backstory, which is kind of a surprise for everyone.”
Tim Burton is back in the director's chair for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which is written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Wednesday). Seth Grahame-Smith came up with the story. Burton is also producing with Dede Gardner, Brat Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Tommy Harper, Marc Toberoff, and David Geffen.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released in theaters on Sept. 6, 2024.
