Wednesday: Netflix's Addams Family Show Adds Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie

Wednesday -- Netflix and Tim Burton's upcoming Addams Family spinoff series -- is looking to Game of Thrones and Star Wars sequel trilogy alum Gwendoline Christie to play Morticia's rival, Larissa Weems.

Christie isn't the only new addition to Wednesday, as she's joined by Issac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), George Burcea (Lurch), Tommie Earl Jenkins (Mayor Walker), Iman Marson (Lucas Walker), William Houston (Joseph Crackstone), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Deputy Santiago), Oliver Watson (Kent), Calum Ross (Rowan) and Johnna Dias Watson (Divina). They all join the previously announced Jenny Ortega as the eponymous Wednesday, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams and Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, along with a whole host of actors portraying Wednesday's peers at Nevermore Academy and the local townsfolk of Jericho.

"When we first heard Al Gough and Miles Millar's pitch for Wednesday we were struck, like an arrow from a crossbow, right in our hearts. They nailed the tone, the spirit and the characters, but gave us a fresh way into this story," Netflix Director of Original Series Teddy Biaselli said when the series landed at the streamer in February. "Naturally infused mystery charting Wednesday's years as a student at the peculiar Nevermore Academy. Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships of the strange and diverse student body."

Created by Charles Addams in 1938, the Addams Family franchise has been featured on the big and small screens, and in both live-action and animation. Burton's take on the creepy and kooky family was announced in October 2020, and he'll executive produce with Smallvillecreators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Burton is also directing all eight episodes of the first season, which Gough and Millar penned.

Netflix's Wednesday is described as "a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore." The show has yet to receive a premiere date.
