After taking on a major role in Avatar: The Last Airbender, actor Dallas Liu is ready to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Just recently, Netflix debuted its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The series features Dallas Liu in the role of the Fire Nation's Prince Zuko, and that's seemed to given him more of a taste of fiery characters. In an interview with Nerdist, Liu played that into his pick when discussing which X-Men character he'd like to play in the MCU. While he loves the Iceman character, Liu suggested that he'd be better suited to play Pyro at this point.
"Iceman is a good pick just because I felt like nobody wants to talk about him," Liu explained. "But now I would have to say I’m fully Pyro. He’s so bad. So bad. I think it’s a lot easier to imagine fire in a fight scene versus ice. You don’t know exactly the shape of it, how fast it’s moving. So yeah, I’m fully just Team Fire in general. The color red, it’s good."
On learning how to master fire for his character in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Liu added, "We’re bending these elements, and obviously, that doesn’t exist in real life. So, we were allowed to be creative in the way that we wanted it to look. We got to use our imagination to imagine what these bending strikes would look like and how the fire would rotate. So yeah, it felt like second nature to me, and the stunt team was nice enough to let me have some input on what these fights would look like. There were a few fire blasts in me and Zhao’s fight that I really got to play with."
There Will Be Another Pyro Soon Seen on the Big Screen
Pyro was previously played by Aaron Stanford in the live-action X-Men movie series. The recent trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine revealed that Stanford reprises his role as Pyro for the film. However, given that the movie is dealing with variants from the multiverse, the X-Mencharacters are still likely to be recast when they eventually pop up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige has confirmed that there are tentative plans to bring in the characters from X-Men, but while the variants from the previous films have been popping up, the new incarnations have yet to debut.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is now streaming on Netflix.
